Any A+ or A Squad swimmers interested in competing in galas need to let Laura know by 14th Oct. We need to register you as competitive with Swim Ireland.
There is approx 6 we can enter up until the summer. The first one is on 12th November in Mallow. There would be a cost on the day to enter each gala approx €12, which allows the swimmer to enter as many races as they wish on the day.
This term all A+ and A Squad swimmers need to increase their training hours. They have two training hours a week with a coach present. They then need to complete an hour a week by themselves (more often if able).
All swimmers should have a homework log pack each with 10 sections (1 for each week) to fill out what they completed in their homework hour. It does not matter what you do in the hour so long as you keep swimming lengths and practicing tumbles etc. Remember 6 lengths is 100 metres, so judge your distance and record it.
The swimmer must have excellent (but not perfect) Technique in Freestyle, Back Crawl and Breast Stroke. They need to be able to do butterfly and tumble turns. For this squad there is still focus on technique but the main concentration is speed and endurance training. We are aiming for Grade B Galas (and eventually Grade A Galas) with this squad but all swimmers in the club interested in competing will be brought to any graded galas that there is interest in
These swimmers have the same requirements as above but there is still some work needed. They would not really have the speed yet so there will be focus on that with plenty of technique work also.
These swimmers have reached a very good level of Freestyle, Back Crawl and Breast Stroke. They still need concentration in technique in all the strokes as well as working on tumble turns and butterfly stroke.
This squad is the transition from swimming lessons to a swim club training environment. As we are still a new club we were flexible in selecting swimmers this year. From next year onwards to enter the Swim Club, swimmers need to have completed the 8 level Swim Ireland program currently being run in the Bay Health Club.
